POLICY 1240
PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT
The Cherry Hill Board of Education endorses documented research that confirms the belief that parent involvement in support of students’ learning is important and beneficial. Throughout all levels of education school-home partnerships enhance student learning and success in school.
For the purposes of this policy “parent” refers to the legal guardian of the student. A parent may become involved through the following opportunities:
· Serve on decision-making committees that plan future direction of the district,
· Serve as a member of the Parent Teacher Association,
· Attend Board of Education meetings,
· Serve as a member of an administrative personnel committee,
· Participate in district sponsored training (often offered through PTA and other local organizations)
· Communicate with teachers and counselors either by telephone or through the district’s website: www.chclc.org,
· Share in the review of a student’s progress either through parent-teacher conferences or via telephone,
· Serve as a volunteer in the student’s school,
· As well as any other opportunities that may present themselves.
The Cherry Hill Board of Education understands that nurturing the highest levels of learning for all students requires the active and sustained involvement of parents. Communication with teachers is the best way of assessing a student’s progress and performance. Every effort will be made to assure parents that their suggestions will be considered objectively and will be considered when evaluating the best educational decisions for their student. The Board of Education believes that the partnership between the parent, student, teacher and administrator is critical to support higher levels of achievement for all students.
The Superintendent of Schools shall develop procedures and guidelines that are in support of this policy.
