Principal’s Message
June, 2013
Dear
Parents and Guardians:
2012-2013
has been a wonderful school year in so many ways. We have provided our children
with rigorous instruction so that they can meet and exceed ‘Common Core’
state and national benchmarks for achievement.
This
summer, Barton School will be the site of a July program for instruction for
eligible students. We will be sending 33 students to this outstanding program! I
am pleased to report that we will be offering a ‘KinderCamp’ summer program
in July for 15 eligible students who will enter our kindergarten in September.
Our
student performance data suggests that our students generally experience a
‘drop off’ in their basic skills during the summer months. We encourage you
to provide time each day for your child to ‘read for pleasure’ so that
skills can be retained. We will be sending you suggested summer practice work
for your children so that they can retain their skills.
Our
Character Education initiatives have provided us with wonderful opportunities to
spend enjoyable time together. Attendance at our many school events has been at
all time high levels and we thank you for your continued support!
Much
of what we do well at Kingston School can be attributed to our outstanding PTA.
Mrs. Erin Plummer and Mrs. Melanie Singer have provided great leadership and
inspiration for our staff and parents, and we thank them for their hours, days
and weeks of work in support of Kingston School!
It is
with mixed emotions that we bid farewell and offer our best wishes to two
outstanding teachers who will retire at the end of this month. Mrs. Marlene
DiGrosso and Mrs. MaryKay Reynolds have enjoyed distinguished teaching careers
in Cherry Hill and at Kingston School. Mrs. DiGrosso has been a fifth grade
teacher for many years and we wish her well in her retirement. We thank Mrs.
Reynolds for her service as a special education teacher over the years.
You
are reminded that schools will dismiss at 1:00 PM on June 14th, 17th
and 18th. Closing Exercises for grade five will be held Monday, June
17th at 10:30 AM in our APR.
Once
again, it has been an honor and pleasure to work with you here at Kingston. I
continue to be excited about the future of our community and our great school.
Have a healthy and relaxing summer!
